STC Education and Leadership Fund (SELF) is a national nonprofit organization formed by US based Alumnae of ST. Tereasa’s Convent Catholic (STC) High School. We were driven to establish SELF by our belief that as alumni, we were the safety net to ensure that students who had the talent and drive would be able to obtain a good education and enhance their future.

Mission

Our mission is to empower young Liberian girls to seek a better avenue to a promising future through funding for educational scholarships, school supplies and various initiatives.

Litmus Project - STC Science Lab Renovation

Proceeds from Friskies Fest 2010 event will benefit the SELF science lab project for STC in Monrovia, Liberia This project will usher in a renewed learning experience and new breed of prospective science and or research leaders of Liberia. It will also enable the school and its students to meet West African Examinations Councils (WAEC) standards and compete with other students internationally. High school students in Liberia annually sit for the National examinations conducted by WAEC These exams cover all subjects ranging from English, Geography and Sciences and serve as a key determinant in a student’s progress in high school and college admission. WAEC recently instituted a practical examination component to its science sections which would entail assessments of students’ skills and knowledge in the lab. Failure to meet the WAEC standards both by the school and its students could result in its exclusion. You can support our 2010 Science Lab project by donating funds, lab equipments, science book and supplies.

2009 - Kinder Project

Proceeds from Friskies Fest annual event in 2009 supported SELF initial project, a reconstruction of the elementary school playground on STC Campus in Monrovia, Liberia completed on January 7, 2010. This $ 4000.00 remodeling project brought a new life to little girls of STC who have been deprived of their childhood. It is our hope that with the Kinder project as our first venture, t we are taking the primary step in educating the young Liberian girls by preserving their childhood and allowing them to play, grow and learn like any normal girl child in the world.

Christmas Joy

We participated in the St. Tereasa Convent School annual Christmas celebration in Monrovia, Liberia on December18, 2009. We distributed gifts to the entire school, grades kindergarten through the 12th. This was a humbling and teaching experience for us. While the students received gifts of toys and school supplies, they gave us the gift of appreciation and acknowledgment for our effort to bring joy and hope to their life at the most celebrated time of the year. We were so touch and inspired to continue to support STC annual Christmas celebration in Monrovia, Liberia. Join us to continue to bring joy to the Liberian girl.
